Cooking With Idols

2012.09.21 : Satoimo (Taro) and cheese casserole

This one turned out a little weird for me (the taro just tasted weird idk) but I really think it has potential. It’s an interesting take on casseroles, something I had my fair share of growing up and which also got really, really old (funny, that).

Sakamoto Masayuki’s Satoimo and Cheese Casserole
Recipe type: Main
Cuisine: Japanese, Fusion
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
Serves: 2-3 servings
  • Satoimo: 7
  • Butter: appropriate amount
  • Anchovies: 2
  • Grilled seaweed: 1 sheet
  • Cream: 150cc
  • Mozarella: 70g
  1. Peel the satoimo and chop them into thin slices
  2. Coat the bottom of a casserole pan in butter
  3. Coat the bottom of the pan in a layer of satoimo
  4. Top that with anchovies (ew gross no)
  5. Add a good bit of salt and pepper
  6. Repeat the stacking process again
  7. Rip apart some grilled nori and spread it out on top of everything
  8. Repeat the stacking process again, making sure to add nori
  9. Pour cream over everything, making sure it gets down to the lower layers
  10. Top with mozarella (or whatever cheese you want that would be yummy just don’t use “pizza cheese” because that is the cheese of liars)
  11. Cook for 25 minutes at 200C
