Cooking With Idols

2015.04.17: Sesame, Miso, and Ponzu Bacon and Cabbage Stir Fry

Maa-kun made this on (technically today’s) One Dish and it just looked so yummy I had to translate it and make it for lunch. Maa-kun says this would go well with some white rice, and also that this sauce will work well on just about any kind of meat.

Sakamoto Masayuki's Sesame, Miso, and Ponzu Bacon and Cabbage Stir Fry
Recipe type: Main
Cuisine: Japanese
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
Serves: 2
  • Head of cabbage
  • Miso, 1½tbsp
  • Sake, 1tbsp
  • Sugar, 1tsp
  • White sesame seeds, 2tbsp
  • Ponzu sauce, 1tbsp
  • Bacon, 200g
  • Salt, appropriate amount
  • White pepper, appropriate amount
  • Cooking oil, 1tbsp
  • Ginger, 1tbsp (minced)
  • Toubanjan (辣豆瓣酱), ½tsp
  • Leek, 1 (cut into 1cm long pieces)
  • Sesame oil, 1tsp
  1. Peel off the first couple leaves of the cabbage, then cut one half of the cabbage into fourths
  2. In a small bowl, mix the sake in with the miso, then add in sugar and sesame seeds. The secret ingredient in all this is ponzu, so add that in and mix well until it's a mispon! (Poor thing, he's so awkward)
  3. Cut the bacon into 8mm pieces, season with salt and white pepper
  4. Cook the bacon and plate when it's done
  5. In the same frying pan, add more oil, and then add in the ginger and toubanjan
  6. When that's fried up, add in onions and cabbage
  7. Get it covered well in the sauce in the pan, then add in the bacon from before and coat everything with the sauce
  8. When everything is covered and cooking well, coat with the sesame oil
  9. Cook to your liking, plate, and enjoy!
